Viamed Salud, one of the leaders in the Spanish healthcare market, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the world's first hospital group to implement LoRaWAN-based sensor networks in all its centers, thanks to a strategic partnership with Aritium, experts in innovative solutions based on IoT (Internet of Things) and AI (Artificial Intelligence).
This project marks a turning point in the way Viamed manages the operation and maintenance of its healthcare centers, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and digital transformation. This achievement is the result of collaboration with Aritium, which has deployed solutions ranging from monitoring temperature and environmental factors to systems for detecting water leaks or generating alerts in case of emergencies.
"From Aritium, we are convinced that LoRaWAN, as a low-power and long-range wireless communication technology, has enormous potential to transform operations in healthcare centers worldwide. This is precisely what our partnership with Viamed is demonstrating, where we have quickly deployed LoRaWAN networks in all their centers and optimized multiple use cases". Ángel Colao (CEO of Aritium)
In addition, this pioneering global deployment also has the support and recognition of the LoRa Alliance®:
"I'm thrilled to recognize member company Aritium as a pioneer in the use and deployment of LoRaWAN networks in healthcare systems. Its deployment for Viamed Salud health group offers a compelling showcase of the value that LoRaWAN technology provides and illustrates how once a network is in place it is easy to add additional applications. I look forward to seeing the results of this collaboration, which I am confident will continue to drive both patient safety and organizational efficiency into the future." Donna Moore (CEO and Chairwoman of the LoRa Alliance)
Nowadays, Viamed has LoRaWAN networks deployed in all its hospitals, with almost 300 connected devices generating nearly 30,000 daily messages. All this data is processed and transformed by Aritium, offering users real-time visualization panels, alerts, and notifications.
For example, with these sensor networks, Viamed can ensure the cold chain for all the inputs used in its centers, ensuring the safety and quality of healthcare provided. Additionally, real-time information is available on occupancy or air quality in spaces, allowing adjustments to ventilation and air conditioning parameters to ensure the safety and comfort of both healthcare professionals and patients, and their families. All this data is allowing Viamed to make real the concept of the "Smart Hospital" leveraging and transforming it for continuous improvement in the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare services.
However, the strategic partnership between Viamed and Aritium doesn’t end here. Throughout 2023, new initiatives have been developing, which should come to fruition in 2024. Notable among these is the joint development of the world's first solution to monitor the consumption and administration of medical oxygen or intelligent monitoring of noise levels in different spaces to ensure the comfort of both patients and families.
"Having LoRaWAN private networks in our centers opens up the opportunity to cover multiple applications using the same infrastructure. In this way, new initiatives emerge every day, leading us to a constant process of innovation, always with the same goal in mind: to offer better healthcare to our patients". Ignacio Narváez (CTO of Viamed Salud)
